“You live the surprise results of old plans.”

This quote from artist Jenny Holzer could be read as a description of the fundamental dilemma of architecture. How the rigid structures of our built environment seem to be doomed to project futures that never come to be. Instead everyday life must transform itself around these failed promises. Is it even possible to imagine another architecture, a type of architecture that adapts? We were given the task to create a new entrance situation for Södertälje konsthall. Visitors will be met by a construction and a changing infrastructure, something that is both a reception, an archive, a meeting room, nature, workplace and a room for art. The project is to be understood as an accumulative process, an in-the-making and a becoming. Instead of trying to find a completed structure this becomes a spatial experiment to understand the present. Construction, furniture and usage invite change itself. It is a suggestion that grows in dialogue with those that looked for more extended forms of meetings and discussions around art and culture.
