Underground is part of our time’s youth revolt. Of our time’s desire for new norms and a new freedom. Underground is a multifaceted phenomenon, but first and foremost it is a phenomenon societal critique. You can value the symptoms differently, but you cannot deny them. When Lund Konsthall declined the Underground exhibition it was a given for Skånska Konstmuseum to offer to take it over.

The exhibition is planned as a multimedia showcase with posters, visual art, publications, light installations, film, theatre, beat-, pop- and folk music. For a wholehearted participation we thank Arts Lab, Jim Haynes and International Times in London, Öyvind Fahlström in New York, Steve Davidson in Amsterdam, Superlove, George Streeton and Passerpartout in Copenhagen, the Modern Museum, the Film Historic Collections (Filmhistoriska samlingarna) and Film Centre (Film Centrum) in Stockholm, as well as the Student’s Film Studio and Little Theatre (Lilla Teatern) in Lund – to mention a few. The catalogue – which isn’t a catalogue but touches on selected parts on the Underground movement – has been edited by Folke Edwards.
