To get to the retrospective exhibition with local artist, and member of Södertälje konstnärskrets, Stig Thiderman, loans from different sources were needed. A letter requests the submission of a painting to Saltsjögatan 17 in Södertälje, the old Mayor’s House where Thiderman himself lived.

In one document, one of Thiderman’s teachers is mentioned as particularly significant. André Lhote in Paris, who, based on the teachings of Cubism, trained his students in penetrating form analyzes of contemporary and past art. Cubism in Stig Thiderman’s painting has in recent years given way to an increasingly freer treaty, a new freedom, a vibrant poetic obsession. ”.

Paintings in a period between the early 1940s and 1971 the year before were shown at the art gallery. Several of his pasty oil paintings are preserved in Södertälje municipality’s art collection.

In the exhibition, Thiderman is highlighted as a real traveler. He has painted directly on places he visited. The titles of his works testify to travels to Japan, Burma, Hong Kong, Egypt, Morocco and Iran. But also more northern and colder places such as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland and northern Norway. From salt deserts in Iran to steaming springs, lava fields, snowfall and ice melt in the cold Nordic countries.

Södertälje konstnärskrets was funded in 1956 on the initiative of the blacksmith and metal craft teacher Hans Kumlin. Thorsten Thunberg was the district’s first chairman for fifteen seasons. Stig Thiderman was a member in Södertälje konstnärskrets right from the start.
