One of the many exhibitions produced during the time of the director of the art gallery and later on the cultural curator Per Drougge was Modern masters. The participating artists were Olle Baertling, Staffan Hallström, Lage Lindell, Bror Marklund, Endre Nemes and Vera Nilsson.

The selection was a cross-section of six artists’ completed life works and is formulated by Drougge with these words: “The choice of these six depends on several factors. One or two names could have been changed. That the choice did not fall on e.g. Brother Hjorth, is simply due to the fact that Södertälje Art Gallery showed a large Hjorth exhibition in the summer of 1985. Other possible greats such as Albert Amelin, Siri Derkert, Sven X: et Erixon and Hilding Lindqvist drop out, because other exhibitors have recently noticed or will draw attention them in the near future. ”

The exhibition presented a selection of important works.
