LATIN AMERICA is an exhibition, made primarily with children and the international children’s year in mind, but it is also an umbrella term for all the work and happenings around the exhibition, such as film, music and writer’s visits.

The exhibition itself is made up of several parts, but leans primarily on the storytelling of the textile images by Gunilla Wänn, who has travelled the countries of the Andes. She wants us to feel that the Latin American people concern us! Her images depict life in the countryside whilst photographer Björn Myrman gives us an insight into the city life. In photographs of homeless street boys, Björn Myrman shows the ultimate consequence of the economic oppression in Colombia. The amateur photographs from a residential area in Chile are full of fighting spirit and optimism with all the collective work the inhabitants have made together – nurseries, workplaces etc. In the exhibition there is also a “Latin American house”, built of timber left from demolitions, cardboard and corrugated steel. There you can read books and listen to stories. Södertälje children from Latin America have drawn and painted for this exhibition. It will grow during three Saturdays, when Gunilla Wänn will hold creative workshops with different themes and hopefully also during all the other days with painting by children that come here and look at and talk about the exhibition and the programs.
