Since the curator, Marianne Nanne-Bråhammar, was, as far as I know from our archive, the only non-male participant in this production, I (Maja-Lena Molin, curator Södertälje konsthall 2021) have choosen to translate her introduction:
Constructive art, through its absorption of the geometric forms, dates back far in time. In the contemporary art parnassus, it has also constantly defended its place under various names, Suprematism, Constructivism, Sharp Edge, etc. There has been talk of a new classicism and a new reality. Lennart Rodhe gives a clear definition of art that in itself contains a new reality: “If we now instead forget our arbitrary will, look patiently and for a long time, as well as listen to the color, and if we thus live into what the color and line want “then, in the end, we may be able to take part in the truly natural art. An art that does not depict nature, because it is already nature. It becomes a new reality for us.” The artist wants to free art from the dependence on material coincidences, individual characteristics and subjective emotions. The artwork is a module, which is often multiplied. Also through its transgression to architecture and design of various kinds, constructive art has a social ambition. 20 artists of different generations have gathered under the name “Konstruktivt/Constructive art” for a manifestation for the concrete, constructive art in Lunds Konsthall. We warmly welcome them.
