Ledfyrar
By Gunilla Wihlborg,

“Ledfyrar” came to place at Södertälje Centrum in 1995. It was after an invited competition between several artists that Gunilla Wihlborg got to perform “Ledfyrar”. Stockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) together with Banverket and Södertälje municipality were behind the competition. The renaissance is to rediscover something old, give it new life, let it flourish again. This is what Gunilla Wihlborg has done with the hand-picked, selected brick from the old disused brickworks in Sandviken, Enhörna.

The three lighthouses merge well with the old station building in red brick from 1860, designed by architect A W Edelsvärd. The beacons are crowned by neon loops that give us symbols of Södertälje. The Vikings’ sailing route through Södertälje is symbolized by the red loop from a kite’s gap, the blue reflects our position by the water and the green loops from the chimneys refer to the industrial city of Södertälje. It is thus a presentation of Södertälje that meets the passengers who arrives with the commuter train.
